Navi System

I purchased an ES without the Navi system although I really wanted it. The price of the unit is around $2500. I was just wondering if you guys thought that a company would come out with a similar(better if possibe) system that would fit our cars?

There is a ton of features that are specific to the ECU on the Lancer. There might be better NAVs but they are not going to have all the integration that the stock one has.

Very nice to hear. Also when I was getting my subs installed the guy told me that I wouldn't be able to control the amount of bass for my subs since the radio is stock. Instead when I up the bass my speakers also get more bass. Is it possible to play with the amount of bass in the sub only without modyfying the other speakers settings?

Probably not with the stock headunit. Generally, you should purchase a head unit with 3 RCA pre-outs: front, rear, sub. It would then have separate settings for subwoofer gain and crossover. Stock head units generally don't have pre-outs and so are fed audio from the speaker outs. That's why you can't separately control the subwoofer.

With your current setup, you could change the gain directly on the amplifier but it's obviously not something you can do while driving. Just be careful not to set it too high or you could damage the subs.

What kind of integration does the stock navi system have with the ECU that really makes it worth buying?. I herd it'll make noise if you speed. Definitly don't want that. Could ANYBODY with the navi system PLEASE help me out with this info. I'm not sure if I should waste $2500 for the navi or around $700 for another similar unit.

Personally, I would just go aftermarket. I really like the unit but it is far from perfect. The only reason I got it was because I really didn't want to eat up trunk space with aftermarket subs/amps and I thought the S&S would be good enough.

The only integrated feature that I can think of that aftermarket units probably cant do would be climate control. The nav unit will tell you what the fan speed and rear defrost setting is.

Some things I dont like about it:

can't load MP3s to the hardrive from a disc
no usb jack
cant play MP3 DVDs
hard to bypass the playing DVD while in motion check
old gps data with no update yet
no crossover settings
no rca preouts
playing MP3 discs has slow track changes

Going aftermarket will give you a lot more options for other aftermarket parts.

Thanks for the info. I actually don't know if to go wih an aftermarkt unit such as the pioneer avic z1 or this model since I don't know if the stock navi system can control the subwoofer by itself. However if I go with the aftermarket one I'll have to purchase an ipod cable and I'm not sure if the bluetooth would work and if the bluetooth controls on the steering wheel would keep on working.

I would have to disagree with edible on some of those.

I have the factory navi and I'm most happy with it. The map is pretty up to date even in areas where our roads are only about a year and a half old. You can control the sub only from the navi. In fact there's quite a lot of other options as far as your audio goes that you can tinker with from the display.

MP3 CDs do take a few seconds to load up but once it's loaded it will switch tracks with a 1 second delay, not more then when you are switching from one satelite station to the next.

Most of your vehicle diagnostics are incorporated into the unit so you can do certain trouble shooting through the screen if you know what you are doing.

To me it was very well worth it to get the fully loaded car, S&S and Tech Pkg for a total of $20500 out the door.
