CVT or MANUAL. on gts
So ive settled on a GTS.
now the question is.
CVT or MANUAL?
The manual has slightly better gas milage and any mods for the car come out for the manual first. plus more control over the car. ect. however its hard to find a gts in manual with the packages ect.
The cvt is is deff easyier to cope with and if your driving at 2:00 in the morning the no clutch thing is heaven. however i have heard its 0-60 is a full second slower. cars with a cvt are about $1,000 more (at least at a local dealer). and even in spoort mode its sluggish shifting at best. however most gts's are cvt's and have the packages ect.
plus i want it in white and i have yet to see a manual in white... or i woulda bought it.. haha.
but i dont personally know.
so i need some input guys.

gas mileasge on the cvt is actually a little better then the manual. i got cvt due to no manual gts around my area. if i could of got manual i would because of the sluggish start of the cvt. still cvt is great when you have to drive in heavily congested traffic areas. get what you really want because you will be making payment on a car, and you should get what you are happy with.
here's the thing. You have to basically wheel and deal the people at Mitsubishi. If they don't have a white GTS manual at thier place, check a near by place.
When i bought my GTS manual i wanted them to drop the price, so i went back and forth over the phone with 2 dealerships (one was right down the road one was 40 miles away) after I had talked to the guy in person at the one near me. I got the one 40 miles away to come down $800 on the price and told the one near me i'm gonna go there if he couldn't match it and get me the color I wanted with packages, etc. They had what I wanted like 3 days later. Plus I had gotten mine during that rebate period where you can get $500 off for being a college grad.
So basically all you have to do is act like your really interested but you want certain things to be specific. Call up the next closest dealership and see what they can give you. And once you like what they have to offer goto the one closest to you and tell them well this dealer is gonna do this, I bet you if you played it right the dealer will be kissing your feet trying to get you what you want for that price. Mine was like that, does help that he saw me first and he needed to increase his sales that month, so he was bending over backwards calling me every other day seeing if I still wanted to buy one.
And if they have to have one shipped in, don't get fooled by that $650 shipping fee. They can get the car there for you and not charge that. So make sure they don't. They are all about sales and getting you off the lot in one of their cars, so they will do just about anything within reason.
If your looking at modding the crap outta your car (wheels, upgrades, body kits, etc.) I would just get the ES and save a couple G's towards that, and just get the wing/skirts and such added on. Thats of course unless you want the 09 2.4L GTS. Might want to read this thread also https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=345712
Sorry this is kinda long but there is a lot of info LOL. P.S. This trick works in the U.S. and i'm from the U.S. so i'm not sure if it will work in Canada. Also, i look back now and wish i had gotten the sun roof

I drive a CVT, and despite what people say about it being sluggish, Its a load of crap, its just some people being narrow minded towards "automatics" and will swear on thier life that a manual is quicker and faster. Its 2008, we're at the point where automobile technology is capable of performing as good as, or better than, the driver himself. I agree that its slower in "D", but in its manual mode, its certainly not sluggish.
I took my buddy for a ride the other night, who is a huge M/T fanatic, he drives an Evo 8 and a mustang cobra, both of wich are manual - obviously. He was absolutely amazed at how fast the CVT "shifts" in it's manual mode. He also was surprised the car only has 150ish stock Hp, and how nicely it picks up. He repeated to me several times "damn, I cant believe how fast that thing shifts!".
The main thing I like about the CVT is; you can be lazy when you want and just stay in D. When you feel like driving more aggressively or passing someone, you just tap the left paddle shifter and it goes into manual mode, you dont even have to move the actual shifter into the "manual" slot. Once you stop it goes back to "D" unless you move the shifter over. Drop it down a couple gears and floor it, really fun to drive, with no worries of hitting the clutch and letting off the gas. It can still be as fun and quick as a manual car, and still be as worry free as an automatic.

I went from a 330whp Evo IX to a Lancer GTS CVT. I am totally happy about it. If you get an auto you have to appreciate what an auto will give you that a standard won't. I love to drive the car. I don't have to worry about the clutch going out and I can beat on the tranny and it is covered under warranty. Plus when I am in the canyons I can put it in manual mode and have some fun. I can shift a lot more to keep the car in it's power band.
The car is a little laggy but I came from an Evo IX so I don't have a real comparison. i went from 400hp crank to 170hp crank
The only downside is I don't have the raw power when i merge on freeways. That sucks. That is why I have a bike.

Easy decision man: Get the manual 09 Lancer GTS!
The stick is faster, lets you have more control, you can work the gears for the best gas mileage, it saves you over a grand on the price of the car, a manual with all the packages will be more rare and thus hold resale value better, i could go on and on
Its an easy clutch, I drive in traffic all the time, no big deal

i dont know who told u the CVT was a whole second slower than a manual thats simply not true.. it all depends on how you manuever the car..find different combos that work with the best time..i did that and i ran about .1 or just as fast as a manual trans did stock..
i think once the ecu on this thing gets really hacked it will do wonders

I got MT and dont regret it one bit. Its cheaper and you can drive as fast or as gas efficient as you want. And if you want to mod it up you dont have to worry. Go for the 5-speed.
