Has anyone taken the trunk button apart? I want to rip that chrome ring off of there and paint it black. I'm guessing it shouldn't be too hard... but wondering if anyone has any advice or tips for doing it. I don't want to paint it with it still on the vehicle. Thanks.

Well, it was very easy. I originally posted this before looking at the assembly.

Step 1: Remove trunk liner using a very small flat head screwdriver by popping up the middle part of the plastic snaps. There are about 7 or 8 of them. The rubber bump stops can stay in place.

Step 2: Use a very small phillips head and remove 2 screws that hold the chrome ring and the button assembly in place.

Step 3: Drink a beer you are finished!

To paint the chrome ring, sand with a medium grit sandpaper... I used 120. Use spent beer bottle as a pedestal for the ring to sit on. Prime, paint, clear... the choice is yours.
