Cvt?
Cvt?
alright guys for those with CVT, i would like to know if its really worth the extra bucks. i really dont know anything about this, what i really would like to know if its feels like your actually driving a manual. from what ive been reading and seeing (youtube) is that you can just keep the CVT on and it drives like its an auto but gears shifting without you doing the actual shifting. can you keep the CVT off and just drive the car like a manual with gears 1-5? or however many gears it has?
Thanks.
Thanks.
it is a CVT (meaning quite literally constantly variable transmission) so there is no such thing as gears. On this tranny however you can lock a certain ratio in and call it a 'gear'. So theoretically you could program it to have 15 gears if you like, just have to crack the TCU.
However Mitsu programmed it with 6.
If you want to MOD your car, these are going to present issues very quickly, the manual will need a clutch change out and it should be able to hit 600 - 1000 hp. Where as the CVT is totally new so no one knows if it could even safely handle 200.
IMHO No, I was happy I didnt buy one and I still am

cvt sux... i got one for the wife... it sounds stupid when u accelerate... and the paddle shifting is 6 gears and u cant redline it(stock anyway)... however it is AMAZING with gas mileage... which is why they made it...
no... i'm pretty sure they made it for the sportier automatic... The mileage only differs by 0.1-0.2 L / 100km (depending DE/ES or GTS, which the GTS only being 0.1L/100km better)
It all depends on what your plans are for the car. If it's just a daily driver with no future mods in it's life and you dislike the stick, then it's for you. etc etc....

Yeah, i'm not plaining to put any mods in this car, maybe just an exhaust (in the future), nothing major. i'm planing to substitute a car with my 01 TA, thats why i don't want to have a car with mods cause i want my TA to do the talking
but im really looking forward on buying the lancer GTS with sun and sound. i was going to buy one already with payments of 331 but found out it didnt have the sun and sound, but it was CVT. i'd take sun and sound instead of CVT right off the bat... so im basically looking for a daily car, I KNOW IM IN THE FORUMS OF
!!! but just a quick one.... civic or GTS... no bs plz lol
EDIT: the only reason i ask is cuz ive been reading THESE forums and i read about the drifting left problem and the tint (i know theres that thing to buy for the tint) etc..

the civics are actually quite nice. The whole reason I bought my car is that if you tint the civic and put rims on it you look much more like a highschooler than with a lancer.
I didnt think my boss would appreciate my suped up civic. haha
I like the 2-dr Sir's

i like my cvt alot! i drive about 40 minutes to work one way and this car is great on gas mileage. i haven't driven many manuals but i can say that this car can get up and go whenever you switch into the 6 speed triptronic(sp) or w/e it is called for this car. like "the cosworth" said above there are no gears, but just a bunch of pulleys so if you like a very smooth ride this car works well because while some cars you can feel it still switch gears in automatic, you can barely feel this one at all!! supposedly it copies some sort of older technology that mimicks snowmobiles or somethin. Point is, driving point a-> point b, then use automatic. Wanting to get somewhere a little "quicker" or out at the track, use triptronic!

where did you get this assumption? thats crazy
our car and the mitsu outlander are so alike it would blow your mind...it uses the exact same cvt system as our lancers..and everything if you were to take the AWD system from a outlander and put it on our lancers..it would work fine..same thing with an engine swap..
but back on topic with the CVT.. the outlander has a V6 that has about 263hp i believe .. thats 263hp on the same CVT tranny thats in our lancers...so im sure that the CVT can take at least 300 safely
not to mention Xtreemeboost and RRM who are testing CVT Boosted lancers..and are putting way over just 200hp on the tranny
