i am getting crappy gas mileage :/
hey i'm new to these forums but i was just wondering what kind of gas mileage you guys are getting in the 09 gts?
I can never manage to get better than 19 mpg in the city and i have the 5 speed manual

Also your gas mileage more often time depends directly on how you drive. Try babying it for a tank and see if you don't get better results.
if you want better gas mileage you need to slow down. If you take your highway speed down to 60, you can def get 33-35 mpg on the highway. As for the streets, like cornercarver said, you need to baby it.
The GTS is rated for 21/28.
19 sounds about right for the city for a spirited drive.
My RA is rated for 17/25 and in stop and go traffic, I get ~15. When things are flowing, I hit 17-18 driving like grandma, keeping it off boost. On the highway, solid highway, 65 cruise control, about 24-25.
If I boost a lot, I get 12-14mpg, on premium...

yeah i have 1400 miles on it and i don't have any aftermarket...
how long before i start to see more normal gas mileage?
P.S. i usually shift at 3,000 rpm so maybe that's a little too high?

I don't know about the GTS, but I have to shift below 2500 to get any kind of decent gas mileage. Anything above 2500 and the turbo starts spooling.
I haven't driven CVT but I'm assuming that if you modulate your acceleration, you might be able to force the motor to stay in say 3000rpm and have the car "rev" the transmission ratio to continue accelerating? There's gotta be a sweet spot somewhere.
Another thing to do is check the instantaneous MPG meter. I find that I get better gas mileage by briskly accelerating then coasting more rather than "slowly" accelerating and wasting fuel in the process.

weight wont kill ur gas too much. I frequently am the one drivin everyone around on top of having things in my trunk, and i consistently get 28 29 mpg per fill up. I get this with a pretty even mix of driving and travelling at 75 usually and semi aggressive in city. I have gotten 33mpg a few times but thats all highway driving doing no more than 65.
I get between 29 and 30 too. I do have a green drop in high performance air filter, but that is the only modification from stock I have. I would also check your tire pressures. I would say your best mpg's are going to be between 35 and 40 psi for the tires.
Also one big overlooked issue (not sure if it matters tho since we have TPMS sensors) is tire pressure. If your tires are underinflated it cuts into gas mileage. In my 03 lancer my pressure was low and my gas mileage was cut in half.
I took this on a 9 hour road trip a few months ago.
going 70-75 the entire way i got 30mpg, it went up to 31.5 towards the end too.
But mine's a PZEV CVT, which are the most fuel efficient models (and slowest
) of the 08+ lancers.
