Oil Control Valve - Weld Job OK?
Oil Control Valve - Weld Job OK?
Hi all,
I have a 2007 ES Lancer with a 4G69 engine in it. A few months back, it overheated, and I've recently (with some help) pulled the engine apart, had the head remachined, and replaced all the gaskets.
Unfortunately, the person helping me broke the Oil Control Valve when he was putting it back into its position in the head. A genuine replacement would cost me $370. I took it down to the guy who skimmed the head for me, and he attempted to weld it back together. The joint is smooth, and the valve mechanism still moves perfectly fine.
My question is - will it be ok to use the welded valve in the engine? I'm not likely to cause any problems using the repaired valve instead of replacing it, am I? Is the damage done to the top of the valve (done when trying to remove it after it broke) substantial enough for it to be cause for concern? See attached photos if necessary.
Cheers,
Tys
