Evolution X Gauge Cluster in a Lancer... Setting the Record Straight

Hey all,

So, after reading through 4 different forums about installing the Evolution X gauge cluster in a Lancer and having EVERYONE say that it's not possible, I decided that I'd actually try to take a shot at it unlike everyone else and see what happens.

After getting in touch with ExtremeDSM (he parts out Evos, great seller btw), I was able to pick up an X gauge cluster with 108km's less than my cluster (SCORE!) for a great price.

One thing to note here, the cluster DOES store the km / m reading, so if you install it in another car, it will not be accurate to your vehicle.

Anyways, on to the install....

I must note that this mod is NOT for the faint of heart.

I will try to get more pictures later, but I'll start with how to do it.

Remove the passenger side trim next to the glovebox by removing the screw and unclipping it.

Remove the Glovebox

Remove the plastic front trim below the airbag by removing one screw and unclipping it.

The above step will expose your audio dash kit, whether you have the OEM deck or a double din.

After removing the trim, disconnect your deck by unclipping the 6 clips that attach to the car. (simply pull on the deck / double din to remove)

Next you need to remove the gauge cluster cover (the trim with the double silver rings that cover the cluster). All you need to do is pull towards you to unclip it. You must disconnect the harness going to the "info" button.

Next remove the dual oval like trim piece that is above your gauges, simply pull up.

The cluster is now exposed, all you need to do now is unscrew the three screws holding it in and it will come out. There is a harness on the back of the cluster, so unplug it.

HERE'S THE HARD PART!!!

Take the harness from the OEM cluster and.... Plug it into the X cluster

That's it! It's 100% plug and play. Tested and everything, everything works perfectly!

Reverse the process to put your car back together.

After that, you're done!

The info screen will NOT show the Evo X AWD information on our lancers which is perfect!

Here are some pics of the comparisons (note, I swapped the lenses):

Please share this information around!!

Hope this helps!

Man, I might just get a Canadian X cluster just so I can have the KPH instead of MPH cluster lol. But that's cool none the less!

Does the odometer read properly, or is it stored in the cluster?

It's stored in the cluster, however, this particular gauge is only 108km's less than mine

There is a brother on the EvoX forum, I think he may need some of your assistance with his boosted 4b12.

RoLLLLLy is his username under the 08+ lancer non-turbo forum.

Tell him to hit me up here! I'm not a member on that forum

I'd love to swap out the rack, maybe in the future I'll look into it

And sorry, I've been super busy with work so it's been tough to keep up here!
