basically yes, but a type of heat resistant gasket. Look at the thread at the start of this one. THere are tons of questions and answers. You might find more

 

it a thick gasket(spacer) that prevents the heat soak from the engine. That heat drop will increase performance. For the NA cars every little bit helps... for FI guys it's the same but they already have a lot of power from the extra air flow. NA guys love these do the the quicker throttle responce and better overall power.

btw, at $90 shipped, im in. ive had problems /w heatsoak before, anyway. And i plan on having my IM and heads matched soon, so i can kill 3 birds with one stone =)
