or you could put the a motorized dvd player at the lower din and then put the gauges where the factory cd player is ........
or
put the gauges on the pillers and put a dvd player on the lower din or where the stock factory cd player is
or
put the gauges on the piller and put a dvd player in the glove box with your cd player move the temp controls to the lower din and put a screen where the temp controls where and where the factory cd player was

Personally, I think DVD players and video game systems belong in the back for the rear passengers, or at home. I feel it would cause too much distraction to the driver being in the front.
If you are going for a show car, then put the gauges in the A-pillar, put the radio in the lower din, then do the following for the DVD:
A. If you get a DVD with fold out screen, put it in the dash where the radio went stock, and put a video game console in the glove box.
B. If you get a seperate DVD player and screen, build a custom fiberglass AC control panel and put the screen where the stock radio would go, and put the DVD player in the glove box.

Pillar if you actually intend to SEE the gauges. It's a lot easier eye movement, and the road never leaves your field of vision. If they're show gauges like coolant boost pressure, voltage and wiper fluid level then you'd probably be better off just saving the money and investing it into something else.
