Say you have a 17 inch wheel on a 03 lancer. What size wheel do you want so that it fits in the wheel well nice but isnt a rubber band.

205-40-17 or 215-40-17
Well,
the factory wheel is 185-60-15
to keep the wheel size the same. meaning outside Diameter. Which is what your speedometer, and odometer are looking at for accurate calculations you use the +1 +2 calculation.
so adding 2 inches to your Rim, gives you a 17" rim . so add your 2" inches and move up the tire size that keep your "OVERALL" wheel diamter as close to factory as possible. Otherwise expect your speedo to be off and get pulled over possibly.
