Different laws, either that or an angry cop. As far as I know, the national DOT laws state you are allowed to have HID headlights at a certain wattage, color temperature does not matter. And for regular bulbs you can have the wattage your car has stock, just nothing above, but any tint bulb you want, they even have a form to order them in yellow and hyperwhite on their website. I don't have the link at the moment but I can find it again if someone absolutely needed it.

He got pulled over for just the headlights?!?!? Or did he get pulled over for something else and the cop was pissed about something?

I do.. cops made me rip off my black tint in the middle of the road.. I think it gives the car a unique look, and it will get a little more attention that black tint when I go to HIN next month. My friends say they like it better than my black tint.. but I liked the black a little better, just because of the privacy and sun-blocking. But meh, its pretty cool. All personal preference.

ok, it never ceases to fail. A cop from a "township" pulled me over just now who doesn't know the law. For Michigan it states you can have a "white" beam with either a yellow or cool blue tint to it as a replacement bulb for headlights. He didn't give me a ticket, but said I have to change them back to plain OEM white gayness.. fvct this, I'm going HID. Then I'll just tell them it came stock on my car like that. They have no clue anyways in these little ghetto hick towns. Obviously the cop didn't know the law, so.. yea. =/ HIDs are coming soon after my clutch arrives. As of now, I'm keeping the bulbs in, and I'm just printing off the MDOT laws to keep in my glovebox.

^-- very true. I have been pulled over for more BS than anyone I know.. lol. I think its just the yellow (or red) color cars I've had.. It sends up a flag for the cops to pull you over. But I just put the "Code of Federal Regulations" for "Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards" in my glovebox. Its like 50 pages long for only Chapter 5 concerning headlights. Here is what the law states:

(1) Has a luminous intensity not less than 500 candela at test point
H-V, nor more than 3,000 candela at any location in the beam, when tested in accordance with Section S11 of this standard, unless it is:
(i) A lower beam headlamp intended to operate at full voltage, or at a voltage lower than used to operate it as a lower beam headlamp; or
(ii) An upper beam headlamp intended to operate, whose luminous intensity at test point H-V is not more than 7,000 candela, and which is mounted not higher than 864 mm above the road surface as measured from the center of the lamp with the vehicle at curb weight;
(2) Its lens in letters not less than 3 mm high, unless it is optically combined with a headlamp;
(3) Is designed to provide the same color as the other lamp in the pair, and that is one of the following colors as defined in SAE Standard J578 MAY88: White, white to yellow, white to selective yellow, selective yellow, or yellow;
^--concerning headlight color, brightness, replacements. (national regulation, trumps state and local regulations)

Yea, I'll get them. My parents come back from up north tonight or tomorrow, so I will have my digital camera back. I'll get good pix then. Sorry for the delay, but I can't find my g/f's digital camera.. and she doesn't know where she put it. The lights look awesome though..

I'm gonna get the HID 9007 5300k conversion kit from www.hidplace.com. Its supposed to be a true white HID color with very little tint.

I can't win in any way I try with cops. My "stock" bulbs are too dull and the cops can't see me good enough, the sylvania's are too blue and bright (even though DOT approved), the Eurolite bulbs I had were also too bright and purple, and now my lights are too yellow.. lol. I've been pulled over like 6 times, but no ticket. gah! HIDs are next.. then I'll just say they came stock on my car like in the Evo. Cops have no clue. I could pull the bulb out of the housing and show them the glass is clear with no tint. And as far as the National Highway Safety Transportation Board is saying, HIDs are currently allowed unless above a certain wattage or color temperature with glare patterns. I should be safe then.. I hope.

I just need to make some vinyl across my back window that says "If you are pulling me over, try to impress me and make up a not-so-lame reason."

Oh, and every single time I've been pulled over, they all say the same stupid line just hoping that you will be a smartass. "Do you have any idea why I am pulling you over today?" Its like.. uhhh, cause I was car #50 that drove by you and its a routine traffic stop?

If I was you I would simply memorize all the rules applying to customization. That way when you get a ticket, you can go to court, impress the judge and make the officer look like a real dumbass.
