You need to disconnect the battery to be safe with that airbag and all...
You need to use a "steering wheel puller" to get it off. I think you could rent one from you local hardware store (at least here where I live you can).
Im going to my local speedshop and doin the job there, this afternoon

? Theres a thread in the how to forum regarding removing the steering wheel. Basically you need to disconnect the battery, use an allen key to loosen the steering wheel, and pull.

I take that back, I took my steering wheel out and didnt need a puller at all.
You get through the b!tch-work of bypassing the airbag, and then you need (as stated in the latter) an allen key to loosen the lock, and just pull.
The wheel slides right off.
Make sure you got the right Hub Adaptor or you aftermarket wheel wont fit and that work'll all be for nuthin'... fu*kin stupid-a$$ Sparco employee (Do they have a middle finger emoticon? Somebody make one!)

Ok, so all of you Evo Wheel Swap enthusiasts, does it mean that if the Evo wheel fits on the US Lancers, then the shaft is the same, and I could just buy an Evo Hub Adaptor and be good to go?

Actually Its illegal to change to a non Air-bag sttering wheel no matter who does it. The Evo steering wheel definately fits. Half the people here have an Evo steering wheel. And I thought I didn't know much

To cover their asses, they don't want to deal with a bunch of people *****ing that they can't put their steering wheel on because the hub is different. Its better safe than sorry in this instance.

Dude get off my f*ckin thread, Im not arguin' with you again j/k
Ok well lemme ask you this, do you know about the MOMO thing?
People are saying that the MOMO Lancer hub actually doesnt work on the Lancer for some reason. MOMO has the Lancer hub listed with the same part number as they do their Mirage. So a local shop ordered a Mirage one from Sparco for me to see if it fits (I dont have to pay for it, if it doesnt)

So should I just say f*ck it and get an EVO Hub Adaptor?
Can I trust that itll be/fit right?
So far its sounding like so...

Thanx

Yeah I've heard about the momo hub problem. The only one I've heard of that fits is the splash hub, but its expensive. I don't think the mirage has the same steering column as us considering they don't have the same gauges. The best bet would be to get a used evo steering wheel since its small and has an airbag, but if you simply must have an aftermarket wheel splash would be the way to go. I think its around 300$ though and hard to get.

I called Z-1 and they said the splash is only for the Evo and may not work on the Lancer. The thing is tho, that I already have the steering wheel, so I dont wanna have to go buy another Evo wheel and waste what I have now.
"If" this Splash I keep hearing about does in-fac make a hub for the US Lancer, where the hell do I get it from?

It should work for the lancer considering we can share steering wheels. Do a search on here for where to get it from, there was a vendor offering it from what I remember. Whether you buy the hub or simply an evo steering wheel you'll end up dropping about 300$, I think.

I keep hearing that... I dont think the legality is enforced on changing your wheel, and if it is then who cares cus modifying your car in genereal is illegal in each state (though the laws vary) EG in Pa. Its illegal to modify you exhaust, supsension, and tint your windows... but do the cops give a f*ck? Hardly... Ive seen the window tint ticket issued, but thats cus its easy... no cop is gonna say, "ok buddy, Im writin you up for a $2500.00 fine, put the stock springs & shocks back on, and reweld the old piping and muffler too and reduce your wheel size, oh and that wing is an obstruction of view, take it off..."
Yeah Right!
Worst case if you get pulled over and questioned about where your airbag is, all you have to say is either "I bought this car used, and it came this way" OR "The airbag deployed in a prior accident, and this is a replacment wheel"
OR same thing and add: "Im a student so Im broke, and the dealership quoted me 1000 bucks for a new airbag wheel, so all I have is this in the meantime"
Their not gonne f*ck witchu, they got better **** to do...

I say "F*ck" alot...
