Finished my custom grill!
Great idea
. I think that it will definately look a lot better if you put some knid of black surface behind the mesh so that the internals are not showing through. They seem to catch the eye more than the actual custom grill section. Anyway, I like it. Its not the normal, "look I painted it" grill. Nice Job
Definitely a nice concept.. But you might want to use less flimsy material.. it looks inconsistent and wavy.. The material most of those "custom grille" companies use is available in bulk from those companies, or you can go up to Home Depot and get a heavier aluminum mesh.. I actually had another idea.. Aluminum strips stacked with shims screwed together.. Kinda the billet grille look.. Not sure but I think that is what a stock grille looks like.. Hehe.. I made one of those for a malibu.. Took aluminum slats, and aluminum "tube".. painted the rod black, cut it into 1/2" pieces with a long threaded rod, and stacked the whole thing together.. then mounted it into the stock grille shell.
i was going to do the exact same thing malibu.... i saw soemthing like it on a GMC Envoy.... looks mad tight.
and i like your grill too, but i would say go with a different mesh.. the all chrome look is pimp.

Yeah the black plastic is just 6 screws for each piece, 12 total. Need a philips screwdriver to remove em. And for those of you who don't like it and just said, don't like it, you suck!!! For those who don't like it and said why and what might look better, you rock. Thanks to all the feedback everyone!
i think it looks pretty good, but im with the 1 layer instead of 2 idea.
ps. how did u get the mesh to stay on the grill like that. Im working on a custom grill right now and cant figure that part out.
thanks.

I finished my grill last night. I replaced the black slats on the stock grill with 2 layers of aluminum mesh, looks a lot better I think. Also, it actually fits the chrome grill piece, its rounded out so it looks good up close and far away, it doesn't just lie flat. I'm going to eventually figure a way to hide the metal pieces behind the mesh but I'll worry about that later. Anyway, here's some pics! What do you all think?
