This is how rich we run: WBO2 Video

I recorded a couple pulls after I finally got my wideband hooked up. I'm doing pulls from 3500 rpms and up in 3rd and 4th gear, just to give you guys of how rich we run and how much power there might potentially be for me to extract out of the car.

Mods are 10:1 Weiseco pistons, short diy intake, kamikaze headers and downpipe, and exhaust.

What tuner are you using? my mods are close to yours but without the pistons. I need to get my afr in line.

about what AFR (air fuel ratio, for people that dont know) are trubo lancers supposed to run at peak power?

Holy F**king crap!!! Ya need to tune that thing down a bit. You should still be running around 13-14:1 you are running way way rich. Also the jump to 25 is either just a glitch every now and then in the wideband or it jumps inbetween shifts.

Yeah when you let off the gass you just have air moving through the exhaust. I have no tuning device yet, I'll probably be utilizing an Apexi S-AFC as I can't afford the E-manage at the current time, and I also don't trust myself with trying to learn to control ignition timing.

Does anybody have any idea of how much power can be extracted from an engine running this rich?

Turbo'd you should be at around 11.8 - 12.0. The more boost you run, the richer you want to be, just cuz its gonna get hot in those cylinders and you want to cool it down. Right now, I'm at 10.5 at WOT

You are not running that rich... i have mine tuned for n/a and i dont go any leaner then 12.7 at WOT. I would not go any leaner on regular gas, with premium you could probably tune to about 13 but that is risky if you ask me.

Turbo i would not go any leaner then mid 11's... Unless your pulling timing on a turbo set up I would not touch 12:1 in boost. Even most evo's dont tune that lean and they have lower compression pistons then we do.

I've been meaning to ask if you did the pulls after you resent the ECU and waited awhile. Perhaps that could account for why you are so rich...

Thank you impetus and 03RL- voices of reason. I've seen those kinds of numbers before: when my eManage wasn't working. That's exactly what I'd expect from a stock ECU. 12.7 is supposed to be optimal power, given the exhaust gas temps I'm getting from a little advance and tuning toward 12.7 I'd say that is the optimal power range. The 14.7 is the "perfect" burn range where all of the fuel is combusted with just enough air to make it happen (called the stoichiometric burn ratio). this is what the ECU does during cruising.

the 25 AFR is because he took his foot off the gas and there's no way to calculate the air/fuel ratio if there's no fuel. It's not 'bad' for the engine, there's just no air in there so there's no explosion.

What a piggy will do is keep that 12.7AFR in the ranges where it wants to dip into the 10s and 11s AFR (it'll do it). Overall, looks good.

You beat me to it. He is pretty close on the AFR. Get it in the low 12's and call it good.
