drilling carbon fiber hood for pins
none yet, it's too dark outside and my good camera hates the cold.
i should be finishing things up in the morning, it should be near 50 degrees, and i may even heat the hood up before i start in on it with the screws.

i couldn't wait. i finished the pins up maybe 30 minutes ago.
they look really nice on there and you can definitely tell that hood isn't going anywhere. they cover up all but the very ends of the cracks my neighbor and i made on the driver's side. now i know how to do all this right...
we shouldn't have drilled all the way through the carbon fiber from the inside of the hood. this is what caused the cracking... like a bullet hole, it was clean on one side and a mess on the other. we should have stopped when the drill was starting to bulge through and then we should have drilled from the top down.
when attaching the actual pin assemblies i drilled a pilot hole and then slowly put in the screws. having a cordless drill with torque settings is good. my drill operates like a torque wrench and when it reached a certain ft/lb (not sure the exact measurement... might say in the manual) of torque it stopped and clicked.
overall everything went well, i could lower the pins a tiny bit more, but that would involve removing the posts and cutting them even shorter than my neighbor and i already had to. since everything works now i won't complain. i will post some pictures tomorrow, my camera batteries are charging right now.

i snapped some pictures a little while ago... if it's not too dark out it's too light and i'm only going to post one of the whole hood since all the other ones got so washed out.

there were some pins just like this on ebay, but they were used... the guy did have them powdercoated black though. they looked nice, too. i didn't think i'd like the silver at first, but it's kind of growing on me.
now i don't have to be afraid of driving on the highway and that was the point of putting these on.

thanks rob! we need to get a picture of my car up on the RRM page now, haha.
the hood does come with the grille... i didn't like it at first but it is growing on me. i stuck the black ralliart grille in there for a test fit and it just didn't look the same. didn't fit, either. i didn't feel like modifying it when i had a grille already in there.

Nice. thanks.
I like the looks of the stock grille, thats why i like the one you have, same concept.
awsm hood tho, might get one of those for myself one day.
where did you get your wing? does it have the CF center or just painted black?

i bought my wing from a guy here on the forums, mitsuozboi, he's posted a few times in this thread. he went all CF so i got his wing, hehe. i really wanted to keep a VII wing instead of a VIII since the body style matches a VII... if i am going to put an evo wing on i might as well use the one that is actually on the evo of the same style.
it's just black though, no CF. i was considering painting it all yellow, but people seem to favor the black center... maybe i'll post a poll when painting time comes around.
as for the grille... i do believe crpyto has one of the CF grilles of the same style for sale.
