On the strut's shaft, there's rubber pieces. They are bump stops because when the strut compresses fully (big bump), they stop it from being a metal-on-metal collision. When you lower the car, you need to trim the bump stops a little so your struts can compress a bit more (since they have less height to work with). Make sense?
Speaking of bump stops, has any gone over any hard bumps w/ their window down, and heard any klanking (metal to metal) noises. I hear it quite often, and have my gts in the shop getting checked out right now, but I'm curious if anyone else has noticed it...
