What is the material used to blackout the exterior of the B-pillars on '08 Lancers? It almost looks to me like a layer of black paint, but not quite.

The follow-up is: What products should be used to care for this material? Wax it like paint, or treat it like a rubber or plastic?

I've seen/had lots of other cars with similar b-pillars. I tend to use rubber shine products on it, but am not 100% satisfied it's the way to go. It's like a rubbery paint they use, not quite rubber but not clear-coated like regular paint.
