Clear Coat Question......

so i was recently hit by another driver and today i filled in some of the scratches with touch-up paint....after it dried i rubbed it down with compund....then polisheing compound then a little wax....

so what i wanna know is do i really have to put clear coat on top of the touch up paint or is it ok to leave it the way it is because i dont realy wanna make a mess with the clear coat and get it all over the place where its not supposed to be

thanks for the help

touch up is more of a single stage thing, you don't necessarily need clear coat--and you should be doing spots small enough that if it was noticable that a part of the car was lacking some shine the spot is too big for touch up paint!

i was covering up scratches ranging from about 1/2 inch to 3 inches but they were very skinny type scratches
