I just took mine off and took the horizontal grill pieces out. Taped off the mitsu diamond to keep chrome(if you like) and spraypainted it. Oh ya! I cleaned it real good too. Wear gloves if you have them so you don't leave fingerprints. I didn't sand down or anything first like that. I used high temp low gloss black engine enamel.

Here's a pic of mine:

scuff the chrome with steel whool and use paint thinner to clean off the residue then primer with auto primer and then paint the color and finally the clear. Use about 2 coats of color and 4 coats of clear.

this the finished product. If you dont scuff the chrome It will come off if you take it to the car wash. I learned the hard way.

Good info, rbbcustom, your way you would end with a Shiny Glossy effect right? pumpdog's way would be a lowgloss ( due to the spray paint ). I want pumpdog's look, but Im worried about paint chip/etc cause he spray painted right ontop of the chrome and thats it....

Hmm so if I went the spray can way as pumpdog did, I can still scuff the chrome with steel whool and it would come out fine right? That would be the best way to achieve that look?

So far it hasn't. I wasn't sure if it wouldn't at first, but if it did I would just re do it since it is easy. But its been a few weeks now and nothing has peeled yet. (Knock on wood) And the horizontal pieces are screwed on. You will see when you pop the grill out, which just pops out kinda easy after you unscrew the few bolts. The three clips I had to push kinda hard for them too come out but don't be afraid to push on them, they will come.

the flat paints tend to stick alot better than glossy paint but if you do decide to scuff it use primer to cover the scratch lines. I used the paint left over from the RMR lip the bodyshop gave it to me.

I hand wash my car or go to a manual car wash place. No drive thru car washes for me. Might rip my wing off heh. But anyways, I tried rubbing the paint with my fingernail and no paint comes off. I used the 500 degree paint engine enamel. Maybe it sticks better to the chrome or whatever then what you used?

Oh ya! I primered mine first before I did the black paint. And I have washed my car since. I must wash my car about 2 times a week.

You can find your paint code by going to the mitsu dealer and they enter your vin number. Or you can pop your hood and look back towards the firewall I believe its near and there I think is one letter and 2 numbers for the paint code. For example mine is A69. And if you bring it to a paint shop they should be able to mix a can for you but you will need to buy a sprayer to spray the paint.

But if you can find the right matching spray paint go for it. Some how Kareem found the right matching spray for the silver which he did his eyelids with and maybe the grill too.
