headlight bulbs

got some wal-mart bulbs for pretty cheap... super easy install, all of 3 minutes for both bulbs. anyways they said blue but turned out white... i'm wondering if there is a cheap brand that is actaully really blue... but i dont' wanna spend like $40 just maybe $20 or so. thanks in advance!

go to like auto zone or something and pick up some "cool blue" headlights. they are pretty cheap and i've seen them installed, they do look blue. personally i would just want white bulbs. i'm not a fan of these purple and blue and whatever other colors they have now. same with foglights, why not just white. how do yellow foglights help you see through the fog. anyway, sorry about the little speech hope that helped (or at least the fisrt part, where i was trying to answer your question ).

today my mom was picking up some new headlights for me, and she saw a cop as she was leaving the store, and he told her they were illegal to have installed.

anyone know if this is true? or had trouble with them being installed?

p.s. I live in IL...

oh ya, pep boys had them for like 25$ i think she said. and supposed to be a "true blue" color.

and not sure about the legality issues with different color lights... i've seen quite a few cars with blue lights though, but I guess it's a state thing...

the cool blue's i was talking about are illegal if i'm not mistaken (alot of aftermarket bulbs are ). basically when you buy them look at the box and it will say if they are street legal or just for show only.

They're most likely illegal not for the color but for wattage rating. Unless your bulbs are actually pure blue or pure some other color completely not white or yellow. It's okay to have blueish or purpleish tints as long as the base color is white, but it is illegal to run headlights with higher wattage rating than 55w/65w high beam

if the box the bulbs come in say "D.O.T. Approved" then they are legal. I have bought a couple sets of lights off ebay, and they turn out blue... you just need to know what to look for. I have a pair of 5000K bulbs (which are blue) that I dont need anymore... if somebody wants them, PM me with any offer and they will probably be yours!
