New steering wheel.

I want to get a new steering wheel but I wanted to know if changing it to one that doesn't have an airbag is gunna cause any problems? I don't car about losing my cruise control or my airbag and I don't have $400 for an Evo steering wheel. Also can I get a Lancer steering wheel hub adapter from somewhere like Pepboys or Autozone or will I need to order it?
Thanks

I did search and didn't find anything recent other than installing the Evo steering wheel which as I stated above I can't afford. There is no thread that says anything about wether a local auto shop will carry the hub or not. Thanks for the help... Not!

There was actually a discussion already whether any of the current adaptors would work or not. I think the conclusion was no but that Momo had one that worked. As for the part number, I don't think anyone ever got back to that thread and posted it or any further updates.

So I guess the answer you're looking for is no, I don't think your local auto ship will carry the hub.

sparco is developing one for the evo which in turn would fit our car. I am amazed that no one has mentioned that it is illegal to tamper with an air bag or to remove it from your car. Atleast in most states. I am not sure about your locality but that may be something to look into first, also for your own safety is it worth removing the air bag? I personally wouldnt put myself at that risk for looks. my $.02

Yeah, but the way I look at it. I don't wanna be in a 20 mile an hour minor fendor bender and get punched in the face by a piece of rubber fliying 100 miles an hour at my face.
My girlfriend was hit last month by someone going about 30mph that sideswiped her. The person that hit her would have been fine except the damb air bagged popped out and broke her nose and the corner of her air bag cover broke her tooth.
So I don't personally see the airbag as that great of an advantage. If I'm going 100mph per hour and run into someone comeing towards me I don't think the bags gunna do ****.
ppl may not agree with me but TMHO
I feel the same about removing your bumper reinforcements for a body kit...

Air bags really are accident related...in some accidents they may save a life and in other they make it worse...and i kinda have to agree if you are in a serious accident they might not help...but then again that is off topic....man if you can find a cool steering wheel let me know...only thing i can say is check around and and maybe if enough people want one then they will build it and we will come....lol

There's also the whole issue with insurance that comes into play, now that you mentioned the reinforcement bars. It is your choice to keep or remove whatever protective/preventative devices may be on your car, but keep in mind that if you do get in an accident, the insurance companies might look into the lack of those devices in a negative light.

Time to get this thread back on topic! Looks like waiting for the Sparco hub is the best route to go if you want to get any aftermarket wheel other than the Evo 7 one from Momo.

OK, So you are saying that an EVO steeringwheel will fit our cars? If thats the case, then will an after market EVO hub adapter fit as well? Cause I have been looking all over the place and still cannot find a hub for a momo wheel that I bought a while ago and is still sitting in my garage.
