It has to be a high temperature paint and I have been told that engine block paint (500 degree) is not good enough. Plastikote makes a special brake caliper paint that can withstand 900 degrees. I scraped mine clean with a wire brush and then put on probably about 7 coats of paint and it looks prety sweet I think. Plus it was only $5 for the paint, not like those $40 brake paint kits.

yeah, i did mine too. just the drums tho. you should use acetone and possibly a wire brush or steel wool to clean them. and i also used engine paint the first time, didnt hold up at all. that 900 degree stuff works well.

OZThunderGray03: Calipers look great man! I am thinking about painting mine soon as well. I second MeWantBoosts question in saying, Where can I get that paint?

So here's a newbie question about painting calipers. Did you take them off and paint them or did you just mask everything off and paint? Reason I'm asking is because I don't have all the tool yet to remove the calipers from my car.

i think it would be harder to mask everything around it. definitely take it off. all you need is a wrench or ratchet with 17mm and 14mm heads and you can take it off.

I definetly agree that it could be difficult to paint them while they are on. You don't want to get paint on everything and as was said by RacinMyLancer, it might be difficult to cover and mask everything while painting.

I believe I got the paint at autozone or advanced autoparts. As for how I painted them, I took off the wheel and the calipers. I masked off the rotor and the wheelwell and the body around the area I was at. I sprayed them, and then and had a bungee cord hold it up, I think the other end of the cord was attached to the shocks. And of course I took the brake pads off, didn't want paint all over them or the silver clips that held them in, unless you want to paint those little clips too. I'll try and get a closeup of the calipers today and post it ASAP.

Now that I think of it, I definitely got the paint at Autozone, again its made by Plastikote, I sprayed and let it sit for like 10 minutes and then did another coat, maybe like 6 coats overall.
