What color should I paint my Lancer?
I think people assume a repaint is cheap, and they soon realize that if they want a finsih that will come close to the factory job, it will cost major amounts of money. ($3000+)
The reason I say come close is that a paint job done after the car is out of the factory will never compare to the factory paint job. That paint is applied in a totally sterile, humidity controlled enviroment, after the bare chassis has been chemically treated to better accept paint. The workers who frequent the paint area in a factory are not allowed to even wear certain types of deoderant as it might cause a defect in the uniformity of the paint. Show me one shop that takes those measures when painting a car. If you find one, try to get them to paint the car for less than 4 grand.....
A bit more info on Mitsu's painting techniques. They actually dont spray the cars, rather a paint powder substance is applied to the car after the bare chassis has been electrostatically charged. This ensures a uniform coat with very little paint waste. This process however has its downfalls, mainly in surface quality. As any Evo owner can attest, the process causes a orange peel affect. Look down the side of an Evo any time, you can easily see how "bumpy" the surface is. Its not bumpy to the touch, it just appears that way.....

After starting this thread, I think your right tristar, painting is just too expensive and the fact that it won't look as good as teh factory is discouraging. Electron blue or sunburnt orange would look very nice IMO, but for $4000 I would rather put in a turbo. I could also get some nice wheels and tires and a sweet body kit instead.
An after stock paint job can be better than it originally was. If you look close at stock paint you can see the "orange peel" effect. Properly done paint jobs can come out looking better and more durable than stock paint (which is crap as I see chips in lancer paint all the time). $3500 will get you a GREAT paint job.
Do a green color....no one has a green lancer yet.

True, I haven't seen a green lancer at all. Perhaps I could do one like in 2 Fast 2 Furious...lol. You are right about the paint chips, my front end looks horrible I finally had to buy a nose mask. And unfortunately, black paint shows the ships the worst I think.

alright, in basic light theory there are definitions and meanings behind every color
now there are cool colors and warm colors
the 3 basic colors all other colors come from are Blue/Red/Yellow, this means there is nothing you can possibly mix to make those three primary colors
now, secondary colors like green are made from blue/yellow and violet from red/blue and orange from red/yellow
what does this mean? well if you use a warm color which is anything made with the color red, it will be a warmer color...orange/red
and then there are cool colors which is anything made from the color blue, which includes, green, blue-green, light blue, etc
of course, there are exceptions, there are tints and shades, tints are any color mixed with white and shades are any color that are mix with black
so if you have a tint...i.e. pink, which is made from red/white being mixed, and shade which is of course just darker colors of the dark-dark red
now how does this possibly effect the temperture of your car or the inside of your car?
well my boy, its very interesting, light colors reflect light while darker colors absorb light so light colored cars will reflect the sun/heat much better than a black car
my yellow oz has a black interior and its real hot when i sit in it, now the es loaner they gave me was never a problem.
on a side note
if you want to loose weight, paint the inside of your fridge blue or put a blue light in it, also start using blue plates, you will eat less and eventually start shedding pounds, now if you don't believe me, try it and see for yourself
now i bet your asking why on earth could the color blue make me loose weight......
well the reason: see the color blue doesn't appear in nature naturally, aside from certain flowers, anything in nature that had blue in it was poisonous, that mentality has been ingrained in our evolution over thousands/millions of years, if its blue: don't eat it (you will never find blue oranges/steaks/fruit/meat/etc etc etc) (if you did: rotten;don't eat) so you have your own mental warning system you didn't even know about
another thing, thats also why you will never see blue at fast food places, think about it
wendys/ BK/ macdonalds, dairy queen, kfc, all of the use red/and yellow in their signs
why? blue would make you go away and red/yellow makes you eat more
since your new to this and i gave you a basic run-through of color theory, here's a mind bender for you:
if you have a blue shirt, what is the only color not in the shirt?
after you reply i will post the answer
hope this helps, long read i know but answer the question above too, hope you found this interesting
