yes, that size will fit perfectly, I'm actually running that same size on my car right now. The rims I think were 17 inch by 7

Does it matter what bolt pattern to go with:
Here are my choices:

4X100
5X100

Hey, not to go off on a tangent, was thinking about a position in MN, how do you like it? Do you have to do anything crazy to keep your engine warm?

I actually like it over here, in the summer time it gets really hot and in the winter it can get really cold. You dont really have to do anything crazy to keep your engine warm. these past winters have been not as cold as some of the others iv experienced.

18s will fit, but they will throw off your speedometer. Check whalentire.com because they have a nice interactive tire size guide that will show you how close in rolling diameter a tire size is compared to stock.
