You do realize it fits over the stock piece, not a replacement... 2 small plastic screws (4 were supplied) you can see one in the second pic above...
it goes OVER the existing steering column cover????
maybe im misunderstanding you, but that doesnt seem possible..

what steps did you do to install it?
1. remove the three bolts holding the two plastic covers on the steering column
2.remove the top cover
3. replace with the autometer cover
4?...it just seems to lie on there, but doesnt secure to anything..

Like I said, it fits OVER the stock piece...look closely at pic 2, you can see the stock piece underneath... You do not remove any screws. You do not even need a screwdriver for the install. Just a drill. Look closely where I drilled, there is nothing behind there so it is safe to drill with the stock piece still on.

TIP: Put a piece of electrical tape on the new piece before drilling to avoid the drill bit from slipping and making a big scratch...

EDIT..I'm sorry, in that pic you can't see the stock piece below, actually it fits so nicely you can't see it at all, but anyhow, do you see the little black dot...that is the plastic snap in screw thingy that holds it on..one on both side...

Dude, just drill the 2 small holes, save 2 of the plastic screw thingys and if you ever decide to take the pod off, just put in the 2 extra caps to fill the holes. You can't even see them...

No fits really snug. They include double sided tape so if you're worried put that in there too. It wraps snugly around the column, front edge tucks behind wheel (on the Lancer anyway...) Guages fit perfectly. You could always put another screw in the way back where no one could ever see it.

is there NO way to make this replace the oem piece? can't you drill into the bought piece and screw it in to stock mounting points or something?
