I have noticed that the Lancers uses more yellow chromated parts like piping, tubing, and metal hardware in the engine bay than other Japanese cars, yellow chromate will withstand 96 hours of salt spray and then corrosion will result. Here in Canada that can happen in less than one winter with the large amount of salt used to de-ice the roads, I have noticed on other Lancers rust on yellow chromated tubing and hardware. Mitsubishi did in alot of hardware(door lock latches, radiator holder and fuel piping etc.) uses green chromate which offers double protection of yellow chromate.
Have any of you exprience corrision on the yellow chromated parts and if so what did you do about it ?
I just of today start applying Rust Check a Canadian product thats used to rust proof new cars, I don't know if they sell them in the US(see pic) protectant on all yellow chromated parts in the hopes of retarding the corrosion. Also the red inner panel stuff is great for cleaning and leaving the engine bay painted area mirror shine and protection against rust and the stuff even smells good like strawberries.
