For pads get the axxis ultimates, I have them and they're great. No problems braking in the winter (canadian winter) and once they're warm they perform very nicely.

I recently replaced my Porterfields with Axxis Ultimates. I can notice a slight drop in braking performance, but nothing to be alarmed with now that I am just commuting. I loved the Porterfields for performance driving, they wore pretty well, stopped with precision control and power, but I just didn't like all the dust.

Slotted rotors don't resist heat spots any better than regular ones. They do stop a little better, but that's because they bite into the pad (faster pad wear). Throughout all of my racing, I was fine on stock rotors, even in 130 degree weather. Now I'm on I think Raybestos from Kragen, no problem there either (although I'm not racing anymore). With that in mind, you might just have to look at the way you drive. Contrary to your adrenaline, smoother is faster, so you will actually be a faster driver and get better brake wear at the sime time.

By the way, I'm going to be honeymooning on a Hawaian cruise this Summer. We're trying to decide how many nights to stay in Honolulu after the cruise. What is there to see/do in that area?
