Exclamation Lesson Learned!

Good Morning Ladies n Gents,

So around a year and a half ago i get this great idea to buy Eibach Lowerings springs for my OZ. Being hard headed and not listening to my buddy which told me from the getgo, "GET TEIN COILOVERS, its worth the money"...i didnt...so I dropped my car on stock struts (but of course we all know you have no other choice unless you get some teins, k-sports yada yada)... OUTCOME: i blew my struts, bad... I dont drive like a maniac, im actually careful, but when youre hawlin *** on the I-5 goin North bound to LA, u hit pretty bad bumps on the way... and the roads in Camp Pendleton suck ***. My car bounces a lot, specially the front struts.., they also make some funky sounds, kinda like a pebble in a coke can kinda sound. SO, finally i got fed up with bouncin around like a pair of boobies on a trampoline so I went to Pro Custom and got my self full tein coilovers.... Smooth, quality ride, couldnt ask for better suspension. Morale of the story is, dont go CHEAP with suspension, specially if you drive your poor Lancer to the ground. Im not tellin you to go out and buy Teins, and Im not tellin you NOT to put lowering springs on your car... all Im saying is, be careful with the decisions you make. SAVE YOUR MONEY, HAVE PATIENCE and get something that youre not going to regret gettin a year later.

Let's hope the n00bs learn from your lesson.

But they won't and someone probably just bought a set of S-techs as I type this.

hey 04lancerEsGuy, your best bet is to start saving for those coilovers if you have not already started. Mine gradually got crappier and crappier as the months went buy. i say around 16 months worth of constant driving on them they went... I dont know how you drive your car and what type of roads you encounter on a day to day basis... i think i drove without being careful and just crappy roads topped it off. Coilovers is the way to go tho bro, its way worth it. Start Savin! lol

^Cool thanx man....atleast i am hoping that my coilovers will last for 12 more months atleast. I am always carefult though. I always slow down on the bumps and try to ignore most of the pothoels that i can. What coilovers did u get? Basics ? How much did they run u if u dont mind me asking.....thanx

I've had my car lowered on Ground Control coilovers and the stock struts haven't gotten worse in the 3+ years I've had them on. I had the car low to the point that I could barely fit one finger sideways between the tire and the wheel well for a summer but now I've got about an inch of wheel gap to accomodate the lip of my front bumper.

^^^ Hey, same here... But not quite 3 years though, more like 2 years. Roads are considerably better out west though. But I can't complain, seeing Mississippi and Lousianna have what seems to be the worst out there. Finally someone else with a "good" experience with sleeves.

Maybe this thread should be stickied, along with the thread where the guy blew his motor on nitrous. That way all the noobs can just refer to the stickies to see why springs and nitrous are bad ideas.

Didn't know the EDFC would work on non-evo lancers. There won't be enough room for the control unit itself to fit with the hood all the way down.

They don't fit on the lancer.... The would only fit in the rear assembly...but not the front. The only way you can achieve this if you do some custom work so the hood will have clearance for closure.

Grinder + hood = EDFC!

My friend and I were discussing it, but I don't think he ever got around to getting an EDFC unit to play with...

yeah i wasnt sure if the edfc would work cuz i havent actually looked into it cuz i'm not near upgrading suspension yet. but i was hoping and figuring it would. couldnt see why it wouldnt...till now. that kinda sucks. oh well. guess you dont really need it anyway. but it would be nice to have. adjustin your dampening from your set. that would be real nice.

My general opinion is that if you only think you need it, you probably don't.
