3g eclipse disk break swap

I was wondering if it would be possible to swap out our factory breaks and upgrade them to the 3g eclipse gt ones that are bigger and have 4 wheel disk breaks. I know people say you dont need that much stopping power for a low hp car and similar stuff. I'm just wondering cause someone mentioned that it might be possible for when I get my turbo in a few weeks. Anyinfo would be helpful.

You'd have to look at thing like hub size, the difference in the bolt pattern since a 5 lugnut brake assembly won't bolt-on to a 4 lugnut hub. You'd have to replace the stock master cylinder to move more brake fluid to those rear discs...*thinks*. There's more but that's all I can think of at the moment.

Me and Dave (the guy that told me to ask) figured we would have to do that. Anything else you think of or seen this in another thread let me know. Thanks.

There may be closer types of discs to swap in that would fit the bolt pattern for starters.

Just a thought. Doesn't eliminate much of the work anyway.

AP Parts has a front and rear conversion kit here. Kit provided by RPW. Think it would only work on the ES model though. The ES is the only one w/ a 110x4 bolt pattern. The LS/OZ have a 114.3x4 bolt pattern. The stage 2 kit is from HP Racing and they might have something for the LS/OZ but I haven't checked with them. Maybe David from RPW has some insight on whether these will fit our cars, and if so, in what trim. Other than that I think your pretty much in uncharted territory. If I remember correctly the other brake manufacturers said they were not making nor had any plans to make brake kits for the Lancer. This will probably change once the Evo hits the streets though. Hopefuly the USDM EVO parts will fit

Hmm as an afterthought. Has anyone taken a look at the hubs etc? Think it would be possible to relocate the front discs to the rear if we find a kit for the front? IMO it would beat the drums in the rear and depending on the amount of custom work it would need might be more cost effective than a kit for the rear. Granted the rotors would most likely be smaller than what the front would be upgraded to, but I could live with that if it meant getting rid of the drums and not having to spend 3-4k on the brake system.

anyways what do you guys think?

bah keep thinkin of more things to add
Rock does RRM have any idea's on what to do for stopping power in Boni's car or are stock brakes enough?

Hoping the Evo parts fit is wishful thinking at it's best. The cars share about .01 % of the same parts (ok, maybe a bit more). Evo's have a 5 hub assembly anyway so you can cancel out that fact. Your front/back swap idea isn't to far fetched though since you don't need big rotors in the back due to weight transfer and the fact those aren't drive wheels...

The US Galant VR-4 has a 4 bolt pattern (4x114.3). Perhaps there is a chance that brakes from this car will fit. Standard is 2 pot in front and 1 in rear.
Baer also makes a 12" and 13" upgrade for the fronts. 4 pots.
Hub is probably different, but its worth a look at.

Best bet is for AEM to make a run of their big brakes, or even better yet have Baer do them ($$$).

Good points to bring up. I'm going to look around today and find out about swaping out the fronts to the back and what front upgrades i can do. Then reason for this upgrade is when I get my trubo in a few months. Thanks for the info fella's

AEM has a rear disc conversion for the Civic EX too...I'm smelling possibility for you ES owners with the 100x4 bolt pattern, but I don't know for certain needless to say. In fact I'm damn near completely uneducated, but that conversion is complete and seems like a better place to start from than a 5lug pattern for a different class car.

3 g stuff should basically work. We actually checked on it. Discs were the same offset. Bolt pattern is the direct mod needed, 5 to 4 lug. Will try to play with calipers asap and let you guys know.

Leave it to RRM and all your Lancer wishes will come true.

I'm sure they have plenty of 3g brakes to play around with.
