How much should the B&M shifter loosen up?

I had a B&M short throw installed in my 03 lancer about two weeks ago, at first it felt very tight and short. It has loosened up over the past 2 weeks which I expected. But it has gotten to the point that it pretty much feels like my stock shifter maybe a little bit shorter but the difference seems negligable. Any advice would be appreciated.

Chances are that it is just you getting realyl used to the distance that you have to throw. Mine felt the same way.

The reason why it seemed so different when you first put it is that is a huge difference.

In my opinion, you have nothing to worried about.

Switch it back to the stock shifter and feel how much of a difference it makes. You are just getting used to the shorter throw. Shifters don't 'Loosen up'... They do get a little more lubricated, but their shift distances don't change... It's not like shifting a lot will make the fulcrum change places...

i personally was very disapointed in the B&M shortshifter.. it is hardy any difference then the stock one.. and i have to agree with lanceracer.. i had mine installed for about a month now and it is getting looser and looser by the day.. it is to the point where it feels like its gonna fall apart.. im taking it apart this weekend and putting back my stock shifter.. my friend warned me about buying B&M products.. he told me they are ****ty and a waste of money.. i didnt listen, but now i know why...

I'm curious Bitnode....

Where did you buy yours from? Ive have mine it for the better part of 5 months and beat it up almost every day. Still shifts tight and accurate as ever. Greatly reduced from stock distance.

I know that there are at least two models out there that fit in the US Lancers. Im curious to find out which one you have.

Did your B&M kits come with the polyurethane bushings? They shouldn't loosen up at all

The RRM kit is supposed to come with a set of "energy bushings".
They're a long wearing bushing that's like a really hard rubber. They should have come with your NEW B&M kit from RRM- it's on the website. If you bought it 2nd hand you still might want to call RRM and see if they can seel you just the bushings.

The stock bushings are crap and that's why they send the new ones- to take away all the slack.

for more about what polyurethane bushings do, check out
http://www.energysuspension.com/ (they don't say **** about our cars in their applications dept, but you'll get some more info about why replacing the rubber with urethane is a good idea)

HOLY **** I just checked out the RRM website while I was typing this up and the B&M kit doesn't mention the bushings... what the fu#$?! I'm gonna PM Rock, again...

It's been a while since Rock took the mentioning of the bushings off his site. I believe he took them off so he could lower the price of the kit to match competitors prices, but then I believe he can still get them for you just have come up with an extra $10-15 bucks.
5.1102 is the energy suspension part # if you need to order them seperate

Not that often that I scroll down to look at the B&M kit
However, Rock did PM me back, and he said that they stopped including the bushings with the shifter a few months ago to keep the price in the $140 range. don't know what changed, but it always seemed to me that including the bushings made me want to buy from them and not RMR or just about any other parts site.

If you want the bushings, RRM sells them for $19 +ship. Sonantoni listed the part number, so you can also shop around. Good luck.

Ok, so 2 questions:
1)When did you get your shifter from RMR? (that's Rhys Millen, right? Not RoadRace) recently, I hope. It might make a difference because people can get all the goodies in one spot. But for the 6.90 that lightningmotorsports is selling their bushings for, it might not. In fact I'm thinking about buying a set for my stock shifter just because I don't like the looseness.

2)What do you think? better than stock? No difference? loose as hell? C'mon- if you're gonna belly up to the bar, you gotta drink!

i have the b&m short shifter with my bushings sitting in a bag in my closet. it is not loose at all. i have very minimal play (moving side to side) of the whole shift assembly, but that's because i dont have the bushings installed. if your shifter is seriously loose, i'd take a look at it again to make sure none of the springs are coming loose.
