in an auto. you dont, but if you really wanted to. push down the button and pull the gear stick back.

but you will trash your transmission downshifting

wow, yes you can shift "manually" dont panic, it just means going gear to gear yourself so that you can get all the way up to redline before shifting. It does get off the line a little quicker. or you can just leave it in drive with your foot on the break and rev it up to about 2gs, then let off the break, but you'll spin the tires a little.

Recommend you don't do that. Unless you want your transmission to fall out.

yeah yeah, I've been doing it for 2 years, and after 40000 miles my transmission runs like new still. Don't worry about it, i've hit redline in L plenty of times and have downshifted for amusement thousands of times. If you want to drive it like that, then go ahead. Theres no real benefit to it

well i have a auto lancer and well some times i use them lower gears ur tranny wount mess up if u knw when to shift. from 1-2 u need to shift about 10 to 15 miles per hour and 2-3 its will let u ****s up to 40 or so and 3-D u could take it up to 90miles and i down shift if im rolling about 40 or so on the street but only to 3 thats it cuz if u go lower u could mess up ur gears. but i use the 1-D method when im in the line cuz if u pop it on N and rev it and drop it to D that could mess up ur gears soon if u are wountering where i got those numbers on the lower gears check ur owners manuel it tells u there so so my numbers are close to that hope i gave u a help

i love when you're in L or 2 and u nail the accel. then let off around 4k and u get engine braking. sorta makes you feel as if you're in a manual.

Do you guys have so much confidence in your auto tranny to believe its quality like a Ferrari?

I wonder where's the unnecessary wear and tear come from. It escapes my mind.

It feels faster, but in reality it's not. Please don't tout your auto tranny as stout as WRX or Supra . . . if your car is stock or basic mods, it's in your head.

Wait till 50, 65, or 75K . . . do you really believe you can escape your fate of a busted auto tranny? Since the 80's to now, there are literally millions of corpsed-up auto tranny from doing such tactics. Of course, you can claim that they aren't doing it right. More than likely. Maybe you are special somehow, God must love your auto tranny, or the tooth fairy blesses it every week at midnight. The latter must be it, and you can escape fate like man escaping the grim reaper at a ripe old age of 215 years old.

If it's faster on the track, try it. More than likely, you'll do a N-drop off the line.
