FI - Clutch Slippage - New To Forum

Hey Guys,

While i'm nowhere near new to the EvoM boards, i am new to the drivetrain tranny section unfortunately haha.

Turbo setup - T25 running 7lbs I/C. Putting down (at my best estimate) about 190hp to the wheels.

My clutch started slipping in the shift from 1st to 2nd a few weeks back but it would eventually grab and i would have no problem on full throttle in higher gears HOWEVER, my clutch is now real bad. Its the stock clutch and i knew a clutch upgrade with FI was eventually needed so i knew this day would come. I can't go WOT in anything over 1st gear otherwise the clutch slips and i go nowhere, so its pretty much shot. I'm not looking for a huge upgrade over stock, and i'm not bumping the boost up at all or doing any more mods to the car. What it is now is what its staying until i sell it in a year. So what clutch do you recommend? I tried reading up a little bit and some people say stage 1, some say stage 2. The stage 1 people say you dont need stage 2 unless you're going to start pushing 240+ at the crank, but the stage 2 people say thats not true.

Any suggestions on what clutch to get and brand? Cost is an issue here too. I'm still torn on whether i'm having a shop do it or throwing myself and my friend under my car and doing it ourselves. What would a typical local shop usually charge for labor on a clutch install if i supply them with the clutch and TOB.

the stage 1 from road race will be fine if you are not planning on upgrading anymore, and if you can replace it yourself then do it... i know shops around here like $60 an hour for work

Best bet is stage 2, stage 1 is basically just a stock replacement with a slightly higher holding power (depending on which company of course). WORKS and RRM are probably your best bets, although I think there are other sources out there.

Another vote for ACT. There's a number of different brands available nowadays (Zoom, RRM, WORKS, etc), and you can use one from a 4G93 Mirage as well.

Do you need the solid engine mounts with the stage 2? I know you probably should im just wondering if your gonna break sh*t if you shift hard without them.

Chirping 3rd isn't that impressive when you have an open diff and narrow tires. You could do that with a quick shift and a stock clutch.
