Heard the same thing. After some light pestering, I learned that it was just because he didn't feel like helping me.

(I knew he was full of BS when he told me that I didn't need to do anything to the brakes on my Camaro even though a brake hose has a hole in it)

You don't need to change the brake fluid very often unless you get your brakes very hot and start to notice fade. Brake fluid attracts moisture. The more moisture you have in the fluid, the lower the boiling point is. If you like to drive very hard on the street you should probably swap it out once a year or so.

Well, I autocross every month and do occasional track days. Maybe I should look into it.

Brian or Tearitup, could you sticky this? Maybe clean it up a little, but there is some important and helpful info in this thread.

Can someone who's done this already help me out?

Turns out the long funnel I have isn't long enough and I need to get some tube to be able to reach. What size tubing have you used that fits into the fill hole?

Fortunately I was smart and checked the funnel length before draining the oil.

I actually bought a funnel that came with corrugated tubing at Pep Boys, but I'm sure silicon tubing with a 1/2" outside diameter or 3/8" inside diameter would work fine.

If you don't mind, could you compile all the useful information into a how-to and make a thread of it in the how-to forum? Then PM Peejay or me with a link to it and we can sticky it with the rest of the how-tos.

FYI I get my redline from my local MOPAC. Not too cheap, but not too expensive. I use 1/2 1/2 of Redline MTL and MT90. (My tranny needs 3.5L [quarts?] so I do 1 MTL 1MT90 1MTL 1/2 MT90, save the other half litre for the next change)

Good stuff, us DSMers have lots of good experience with Redline...good times that. If you want to ease up your shifting, don't even bother waiting, jsut swap out the fluid. Or, if you don't want to DIY, bring it in to your local dealer, and get them to toss it in. It's all good

I'm curious on two things: 1, why did you go 1/2 and half on the two different oils? 2, what is the difference between the two? (They seem to have the same viscosity and everything)

Thanks urbanknight. Just didn't want to waste money on something that wouldn't work right.

Like me? I bought a $2 funnel, a $15 manual fluid pump, and a $8 siphon. I returned the pump, but I tried to use the siphon... that was a joke. And to think the $2 funnel beat them both in ease of use!
