transmission question.
I'm not sure what the difference is. From what I can tell, the F4A42 is an older transmission because it was used on cars from 1998 to about 2005 and the F4A4B is being used from 2006 up to 09 vehicles. I'm sure there has been a design upgrade, but I am not sure what it is.
They are both likely automatics, and they're both 4 speeds since most of today's cars are 5 speed manuals when MTX.

They're both 4 speed autos, and I would assume that the F4A4B is a revised unit with the same casing as the F4A42. This is speculation based on part numbers.
