short shifter ???

I am going to purchase a short shifter for my 2003 lancer OZ. There is currently a few on sale on ebay. I was wondering if there is a big difference (besides price) between the one on ebay and others made by EX: JDM?
I have enclosed the link for ebay on the one I am considering buying. Thanks for your help. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2463011402[/URL]

You should get a B&M short shifter. They seem to be the most popular and best. Not sure what makes them the best though.

Is it hard to install new bushings? Also is there a tech forum to help with installation?

Is there really that big of a difference? There is a B&M on ebay but it is 124.95.

I found the B&M shifter to be weighted for the smoothest shifting (in my opinion) but other than that, the ebay ones should reduce the throw about the same. There's a how-to somewhere around here. Oh, and the bushings are easy to install, also. But it's best to do with the shifter, since you have to take out the center console and shifter to get to the bushings.

Did you have any luck with that short shifter, because I was browsing around on eBay and found this one...

look harder, there are short shifters going for $9.99 plush shipping...from what i've heard, they work well, just not as weighted as the B&M and dont come with bushings. Also, the quality isn't nearly as good. I have a friend who advised me against it...says they are notorious for snapping...

yea man, I completly agree... Things your hard with (and we all know that we beat the **** out of our shifter when racing, or whenever we're trying to make quick throws)... Spend the shiney penny.

Things that are, well, just random mojo that nobody really cars about (Door stills, sound insulating foam.. etc etc)... Be cheap.

Meh, thats just my rule of thumb anyway... It got me this far :thumbs up:

...I think now, I'm going to attempt to migrate away from the US Lancer Tranny / Drivetrain tech forum, into something more... populated. Wish me luck!

Snapping? Do you know what you are talking about? Or do you even own one? No, no and no. I have been using one for probably the second longest time as anyone on the boards, I am hard on it and it hasn't snapped yet. Plus there are many more people on here with it and there is not one single report of a broken one. They are made reasonably well but you wouldnt know that since you never held one in your hand. So unless you have some truth or proof don't steer anyone away from what has proven to be a very good mod for a very cheap price.

i bought mine off of ebay from 4caroption. only paid 32 dollars and it works just fine. only thing i dont like is that the stock shifter is bent a certain way and when you put the new one in it is not bent. So the position of 1st through 5th is different but you get used to it.

sounds to me like there are quality control issues. Most of them should be fine, but it just looks like there's a larger risk of a defect, like cracks or overstressed metal. Other than that, a solid piece of metal should hold up just fine.
