Good question and the answer is maybe. If it's mated to the 4G93G (Going to use G to denote a GDI engine) then there's a possibility. Standard 4G93's in Mirages are mated to the same transmission as the Lancer. If the 4G93G is remotely similar...then just maybe.

OK who wants to be the guinea pig? I would, but I don't have the kind of money it takes to get a new transmission

Where can I go online to ask about this? Anyone know if Mitsu actually made this or offer it?

don't know for the 5AT, but in Australia, the lancer 2.0L VRX has a 4AT with "shift-tronic", check this link and especially this §
VRX also features 4 speed 'SPORTS MODE' sequential gear-shifting. This fun-seeking innovation, lets you turn your automatic into a sporty clutchless manual, whenever you desire.
this tranny should fit the US lancer, ask an Australian guy or Mitsiman maybe

Interesting that they call the OZ a VR-X in Australia and the interior looks different and it comes with a shiftronic......

Buy the auto tranny ecu (don't know if the pin connections are the same) . . . if so, the next Q, will the US spec ecu will able to communicate effectively to the JDM tranny ecu . . .

Manual tranny does not have an ecu , just slushboxes.

that 5 speed is actually the same one used in the australian magna (diamante). the indonesian lancer actually has a 6 speed INVECS III CVT with sports mode. too bad australia doesn't get this version.

VR-X is diff to oz, diff wheels/suspension/interior/bodykit/black grille (ours is better :P ) I've got a few pics of the VR-X in my profile.

Its available in manual and the sports mode auto. I drove the auto, I didnt like it at all, im a clutch kinda guy. (i shift 1-2-5 5-3-2 normally)

Mite be ok for lazy people who just want something to be able to instantly up/downshift (Which it does do, its not like an normal auto) but i'd go the manual if you enjoy actually driving your car.

Its certainly a strong unit though, the magna is a 160kw v6 and i believe its the same box.

If you can get it to fit, and you like the ease of an auto i'd recommend it over a normal auto.

the 3G eclipse has similar auto sportronic tranny, I dont know if it is the same, dealer install should be straightforward. I doubt if they will give any warranty except for the mandatory 30 day labor and 1 year for the tranny?
