Unhappy minimal response from 1st

I drive an ES Lancer 2002. I really enjoy the responsiveness from 2nd through 5th gear, but what's with having to hold 1st gear forever and still getting no where?

Any suggestions about modifications I can make?

I found an article on Mitsubishi's Motorsports News site that mentioned the rally team experienced this and their solution was a custom-made 4.8:1 gear set. Would this be available aftermarket for the average consumer? Cost?

If this modification were possible would it even be useful on a street car as opposed to a rally car?

so far a new gearing ratio isn't available and if it was it'd be damn pricey since it's not like light bulbs that everyone goes out and replaces. I don't know that it'd be necessarily beneficial for street either, just do 2nd gear launches , problem solved.

I get up to 30 pretty damn quickly before redline. I've never had a problem with it.

Yeah that's my experience, Hobie's right... Maybe you're exaggeratin'... 1st gear pulls like a champ at 5000RPM, and it has pretty good low end considering our fat-*** cars.

1st gear pulls just fine for me, but I really need the short throw shifter.

the gears i think pull ok...but the 6k redline and 6200 cut off is horrible...i had a neon with around 180 hp...and have that luxury of the 7250 kill is hard to get away from...if it wasnt for a blown motor my "sniff, sniff" my baby would still be with us...98 expresso w/ intake, header, custom exhaust, pulley, bored tb....sniff,sniff...i woulda held out for the turbo...but its still a chrysler...lancer on
