Just installed short shifter
Just installed short shifter
So I bought an ebay short shifter (Megan short shifter) and it works like a charm.
I've never used a b&m short shifter so I really don't have anything to compare it to, but as far as I'm concerned it works great!
I also purchased an Evo shift knob from nalevy which is also pictured.

I put a B & M Short shift in, and it works pretty good, It took a little bit of time about an hour or so to install but it has mad a hell of a difference in driving, I love shifting gears with just a flick of the wrist, How is the Megan Short shift??
how much shorter of a throw did the Megan short shifter make? B&M claims 40%, and I don't doubt it, it's much less of a throw, I also replaced the shift knob w/ a Momo Shifter knob and the boot, The shifter was easy to install but any of the adapters that came with it just didn't seem to work right. I ended up putting the Knob all th way down to the rubber boot that was on the Stock shifter.

, ok I'm done laughing at that comment, let me explain a thing or two to you. To shorten the throw of a shift, you must change the pivot point of the shifter, which must be moved higher on the shifter (in turn lengthening the shaft below the pivot point). Shortening the shaft above the pivot point does NOTHING but change the FEEL of the shift. You may think it's shorter, but it's not. I compared the cheapo shifter to the stock and was disappointed to see it did not accomplish what it was supposed to. It just shortens the upper shaft, and move it farther away from the driver. The Megan, new B&M, and a few others actually accomplish the task nicely. In some cases you actually have to cut out a part of the shift box because of the length of the shaft below the pivot point.
The civic I used to have, I bought a cheapo shifter, but when compared the lower shaft was about 1cm longer than stock. The shift throw was about an inch between gears compared to the 5 inches of the stock shifter. Now that's what a short shifter is supposed to accomplish.

Like you said, the upper shaft is shorter. That makes the throw shorter but requires more effort. It's just a lever.
Think about it. Take a 4" straw and meausre the distance (the arc) it takes to move 90*. Now take a 2" straw and measure the same arc at 90*. The shorter one moves less to go 90*. Same principle with the shorter shifter............
