A major hole in a metal pipe under my car...problem?
i just got my 04 lancer es 3 weeks ago, and yesterday i started noticing some weird noice coming from the right rear bottom of the car while driving. (I actually noticed it after completely stopped, but then after i paid attention i found that it also makes the noise while the car is in motion). I thought it was like a rock stuck in the break or suspension or something but there wasnt any. So this morning i lifted up the car and found a hole in a metal pipe under the car. Here's a pic

no, dude, pics are very clear. im just speaking from experience, as i was under my car not two days ago and mine looks EXACTLY like that. its just a gap where the two pieces of heat shield dont fully come together.
it's supposed to be like that. It's just a shield to prevent the downpie from getting banged up. The problem you're hearing is coming from something different, although it may be in the same area, possibly an exhaust leak from a loose connection. Take it to your dealership and have them figure out where the noise is coming from.
