hand brake removing?

hand brake removing?

I currently own a 04 lancer es, and i want to replace my plasitc emergency brake, but i have no idea on how to take this old one off...do i have to remove the center console to do it? thanks

hey man, i removed mine, all u need is elbow grease (could purchase it at any autozone) just grab the handle, twist and pull at the same time. it'll come off

where do u apply the elbow grease?

I think you have to change the entire assembly since you drive an es and its a complete unit.

Yeah, you can't simply take of the handle, you have to replace it with one from an OZ/ralliart and then take off the handle. The ES is a single unit, there is no gap between what you grip and what actually gets turned. Look at the pic, the red circle is what actually gets moved. If you get an OZ assembly the blue circle will be removable.

will it be possible to take the blue circled part apart from the red circled metal piece? i tried prying it off like crazy but it didnt move a single inch

I want to get a different e-brake handle too.. i like the one they had in the evo MR at my dealership. I think I'm going to try to rip mine out with brut strength and buy an MR one.. =D!!!

DUDE! U GOT THAT RIGHT! i put each of my legs across in the driver and passenger leg room facing the back of the car and then PULL! (after taking the arm rest console out of course) AND THEN I HIT THE BACK OF MY HEAD INTO THE REAR VIEW MIRROR, WITH THE HAND BRAKE APART IN MY HAND! i was so happy even tho i got this huge a$$ swell behind my head now
