Spraying white lithium grease - will this require disassembly? I haven't even looked under the car yet, so my apologies - but has anyone done this and did it eliminate the noise?

Thanks.

I haven't been to the dealer yet.. I will go soon because of a scheduled service anyway, so I'll see what they say.

But anyway, it was almost 70 degrees a few days ago, but the noise shows no sign of going away.

Hopefully it IS just the grease.

I don't think you should have to grease suspension all the time. I never had to put grease on the suspension every couple of months on other cars. The most weight I had in my car was 5 guys, and that is when it started.

I guess it's at least a LITTLE comforting to know that almost everybody has been experiencing it.

I live near boston, and it's been sooo f'in cold. It seems to be better on "warmer" days, but then it always dips back into the single digits at night.

It's REALLY annoying, on every little bump it squeaks and when I get in and sit down it squeaks. I can push down on the rear wheel (well, on the trunk over the rear wheel anyway) and get the noise.

It seems like suspension compression or as someone else suggested possibly the stabilizer bar, but very obviously some suspension component is not happy.

Now the question is, who has brought their car in to the dealer, and was there anything to "fix"? Or will it go away when it gets warm again?
I have the same exact problem!!! I brought mine in once to get fixed but they didn't hear the noise (which really ticks me off because something is definitely wrong with it) and I just dropped it off an hour ago because it's bad now.. I'll let ya know what happens..

Update: It's the rear control arms. Funny that when I suggested that last time, they said they checked 'em out and nothing was wrong with them.. I'm sure they really checked too...

Bella,

Mine made the noise when i brought it to the dealer. And they won't fix it untill they locate the exact part they need to replace. Which as you pointed out is the rear control arms.

Well did they fix it? Has anyone come up with a good reason for this? It's not 40-55 in the Boston area and this morning my car was squeeling like a pig. It's been 2 weeks w/o snow and I washed my car a week ago (I sprayed underneath as well)
I'm not very familiar with car tech. What are the control arms?

It's 45º here today and it was creaking really bad on the way to work.. I'm not exactly sure about what control arms are but they are a part of the rear suspension. It seems to be a problem with a lot of Lancers, which you can see from reading this thread, and if you search, there are quite a few others on the board. Surprised there hasn't been a recall yet?

just spoke to service at mitsu. They said they've heard of this. It is the rear struts. They are on the back order. I'd have to drop off the car for them to check out and make sure. Then they would order the struts.

ya
it makes a noise when you sit in the car, get out of it. When you break and let go off the breaks. It's def suspension related, because i pushed on the back of the car last night after i praked and it did squeak.
so....
I will update when i go to mitsu
maybe tomorrow morning i will drop it off for a day there.

I'm kinda glan my suspension is stock as of right now, cause i'm sure people with springs will get **** from the dealers unless they take them out before going into the dealer.
