The noise came back just as it was after rebuilding the engine.

Now I'm trying to make a decision if I should:

1. Replace the hydraulic lifters?
2. Replace old hydraulic lifters with solid ones from mirage?

From my further research I found out that it probably has something to do with a preset preload on the lifters. With the higher compression the preload could have been changed and the lifters would have to be readjusted. But HOW?
I know our lifters are self adjusting but from what I have found on the internet is that you can also adjust the preload on the hydraulic lifters, solid lifters.

Any advices???

This sounds familiar :"The plunger can be pushed upwards in the lifter bore within the design limitations of the lifter, and will eventually be stopped by a snap ring retainer in the top of the lifter body. Once the plunger reaches the retainer, it can no longer provide effective valve train adjustment, and the valvetrain will start making noise. "
