Turbo and emmisions?
hey i was wondering if a lancer would still pass emmisions with the turbo. I know it doesnt spool up until you give it gas, and when you are getting the inspection the car is just idle. Would there be any problems? Thanks
yeah, i haven't had to do one here in CO but i know when i lived in NJ they didn't play around...Yeah, i'd like to look into the certification sticker, i know my dad wont let me turbo until after i graduate if that is the case.

now .. since the Evo is in CA and has a legal-turbo .. I would assume one could 'borrow' the sticker from it .. to pass inspectiions. Not that I would recommend .. however ....

Well I did some research for us tx folk.. looks like though tejas has emission controls they are only enforced in the following counties as of '02
Dallas, Tarrant, Harris, El Paso, Collin and Denton.
What's this mean? That they don't test your car for emissions and I would assume that going turbo or replacing your header would be legal in areas outside these areas as long as you have the other cat.
As I get closer to replacing my header I'll learn more about tx emission laws for all us texans.

Ive heard ofr carb exemption on turbo I think eddle brock make them but not sure for what Im sure its possible to make one for the lancer becouse a propaly tuned turbo cant creat more horse power as well as burning cleaner by making the engine mor efficaint
The only way to get a CARB exemption is to prove to them that your product does not increase the volume of emissions or release dirtier emissions and that your product does not change/remove/interfere with any factory emission control systems.
BAHAHAHA!!! i talked to my dad today about emissons and car inspections and he told me that as long as i own my car, i dont have to get a vehicle inspection or emissions test. I have a sticker on my car that reads "emissions exempt vehicle" so i guess i can get away with everything. Good to know
I've got a question as well. With the removal of the stock manifold and 1st cat, will you have to swap out manifolds come emissions time? I'm getting an RPW header soon and I'm gonna be swapping back both cats for emissions, but things get a little more complicated with the turbo setup. Cuz then you've got all the extra goodies just chillin in there when you swap out the header (rrm) or turbo manifold, correct?
