How would this happen?

So recently ive developed a pretty bad rattling noise when i come to stops. its sorta happening when i lay on the brake a little and the car tilts forward, also happens when putting it into reverse the engine makes the thing vibrate too, well took it to mistu today after having enough and they said its the drivers side front axel assembly broken? wtf? how could this happen. and what exactly does that mean

Did they lube it up before they stuck it to you at least? I would think since the axel turns when the wheel is turning it would make noise at all times and it would grind not vibrate. There is nothing to vibrate on the axel.

but what doesnt make sense, is if i push the brake, and i put it into reverse, why does it still make the noise, wouldnt it only do it if i'm coming to a stop if it were a grind.
