engine shut off when driving.
engine shut off when driving.
When I was driving on the hwy, there was a downhill section, so i put the car in neutral (automatic). A few seconds later, there was a light on the speedometer, but I'm not sure what it was and the steering wheel was almost locked and the gas pedal didn't work either. So I pulled the car over to the side of the hwy and started the engine again. Then it was fine.
What's the problem with this? Anyone else ever have the same experience?

FYI: Your Engine *Shut off* not Shutted off
You should have been able to switch back into gear although your transmission wouldnt have been too happy with you. Thereasonsf3's reply sounds reasonable to me though.

Why would you put your car in neutral anyway? You're going down a hill. So what? Push the brake pedal... that's what it's there for.

with auto tranny of course...
i think thats why they put it in N buddy. use less less gas, small amt tho, while coasting at a higher speed w/o using gas... is doing this bad? i put it in N whenever im at a stop in an a/t
Tried this the other night... (because of this thread of course) Down hill in 03 Auto shifted from D to N. RPM dropped from 600-700 to 500. No problems, didn't stall. Stopped at the light and shifted into D; and I was off...
