Thumbs up

Hello all
this is my first post on the board. I came across from the Mirage board I guess once I found this site on yahoo. My lancer is 1 week 3 days old. I have about 370 miles on it and I just want to say that yes the gear box was a little grindy at first but it seems to be breaking in quite nicely now. The only gear I am having trouble with is reverse. I think you guys needed to break in the vehicle slowly.

I will keep and eye out for any problems I might encounter but so far so good.

I even let my girlfriend drive mine before it hit 100 miles and she can't drive a manual. It was the most nervous time of my life but it's just a car I guess.

See ya'll around.

from another perspective...
When I bought the honda I didn't no a thing about breaking in the vehicle and stuff. I really broke it in right off the lot from day one by shifting higher than 5000 rpms and flooring it the way home. After 5 years and 70,000 miles, never a problem(the engineering and mechanics of the car still amazes me). Just my two cents...

Thanks for watchin out for me. :headbng2:

Anyone elses OZ a little jolty / hesitant off the line when warming up? Like not enough gas too much clutch or vise versa seems to do it, but it's just odd, cuz it happens often in the morning.

You answered your own question with it being "in the morning". The car still needs to warm up. Oil still needs to get tossed around the engine, fluids and what not gotta get sloshed from point A to point B. Just let it idle a bit more before you head off.

In the morning

When I start the car in the morning the revs shoot right up to 2000. I usually let them slowly subside to 1500 or less before I drive off. This seems to help with the morning hesitation. It only takes about 10-15 secs. Try it.

It idles at 1500 after jumping to 2k or you rev it to 2k for a bit to warm it up?

I think he means it idles at 2000RPMS when its starts up cold and he waits for the RPMS to drop down to 1500 before he drives off.

That's how it read, but mine idles significantly lower than that. I'm at 1.5 tops when she revs and around 1 when she idles. Can't imagine what would cause a difference like that.

every FWD car ive ever driven jerks like that. When you hit the gas the engine jerks which makes the shifter jerk. RWD cars dont do it because the shifter is connected straight to the tranny not with a rod like FWD.
(unless the crossmember breaks) been there done that!

Odd cuz it doesn't happen in my sister's car or ther tercel i've driven a few times. The travel and jerkiness have significantly reduced though, oddly enough. I dunno what it was, but uh...maybe I um...broke it in.

Idle

Just to let you know my car idles below 1000 (rpm)
when it warms up later in the day. Probably around 700 to 800.
