I didn't know a car could make this noise

Yesterday I cleaned my filter and reset the ecu and the car drove great for 50 miles last night and all day today. my mods are sri, axelback, front strut bar, shortshifter.

about 15 minutes ago I was driving back from dinner with my friend going over some potholes in the rain. i went over them really slow but when i stopped at the intersection we heard this high pitched noise coming from either the dash or the engine. it did not sound mechanical. it sounded like a buzzing from an old arcade game and it was only altered when i moved the steering wheel. after 15 seconds it went away, but there was def something going on. it was loud and not coming from the speakers.

was this some kind of sensor or some mechanical noise that i wouldn't know about? no cel or anything, and then it went away and i drove the two more blocks home without a problem. should i worry? thanks guys

sounds like a very high pitch vibration in something. something vibrating very fast can sound like a high pitched buzz. get into your engine bay and check for anthing loose.

Good idea I would check now but its pouring. Guess I'll have to get under their before work tomorow. It was just so weird though, I can't even describe how bizarre a sound it was. It persisted for about 15-30 seconds and then just stopped. my friend was so scared

the fact that you said the sound was altered by the steering wheel leads me to beleive it has something to do with your power steering (wonderful logic i have eh?)

my nissan used to have this problem everytime in the rain where just a slight amount of water on the belt would make some REALLY strange noises. . . none of them ever sounded like belt squeek, but like you said, in a few seconds they would go away. they would change pitch every time i moved the steering position. . . so you might want to check your belt isnt getting old JUST in case.. . although, in theory if a perfectly new belt gets wet it can still squeal and it isnt good i can imagine.

another theory is, the potholes could have loosened a pully ever so slightly. if you get any play in a pully, you will hear that wierd buzzing sound as the pully wobbles on its bearing (also another thing to check is the bearing)

just a few thoughts tho. let us know how your inspection turns out!

Thanks for the help guys I checked it out yesterday and it saw nothing wrong or loose. I drove it about 120 miles to delaware and back with no problems whatsoever. Hmm it was so weird though. Maybe i'll really get in there in a day or two and try to figure it out, but i'm just hoping it was one of those weird one time things.

Thanks though! i'm gonna look at the power steering and belts more closely

I agree with fox. you saying it was alterered when you moved the wheel meens its probably power steering. mabey it got tweaked a lil bit and its worked itself out!?! I dunno how the power steering works but that very well could be it.

I just had this same problem and it turned out to be rusted heat shields on the stock down pipe. Muffler place took them off, problem solved .

Did it almost sound like a quiet supercharger whine? Mine's doing that right now, but only under full throttle acceleration.
