ECU wires and an AFC
really? i took this with my head under the passenger kick panel with the glove box removed and the little shield piece removed. the door is closed and my feet are on the headrest. i got up with one hell of a rush to my head. basically sat upside down with the door closed.
i guess i'll go check again. it's a pretty old pic. don't mind all those extra wires and cut wires. thats some other stuff...

never noticed a part number anywhere. hmmm, well here's how i get to my ecu, just so we know we're in the same place.
1. sit in the passenger seat and open the glove box.
2. give the glove box some slack and remove the plastic plug that keeps the glove box from falling out in the rear left of the glove box by pulling the peg on the outside of the glovebox towards you and pulling it through from the inside of the glove box.
3. then just pull the right plug that keeps the glove box in towards the left while opening the glove box all the way until you can pull it out. now the glove box is out.
4. theres a shield piece on the bottom left that you can pull out by just pulling towards you. this piece was shielding the ecu.
5. sit backwards in the passenger seat so the back of your head is towards the windshield. just lie back so your head is right under the passenger dash, and the ecu should be oriented just like in the pic that i posted earlier.
as for the difference in wiring diagram for an automatic, there should be extra wires than in the pic because i have a manual. i would think that there would be extra wires to handle sensors in the auto transmission, BUT the pin designation should be in the exact same spots. i don't know if the wire colors are the same but the exact pin location should be the same regardless. the apexi manual also makes no distinction.
grab a copy of the apex wiring diagrams here. look under mitsubish, m3-a harness. regardless of wire color, these pins should be corresponding to what you need.
all documentation on apexi stuff is here.
maybe i'll take pics when i get my digicam back next week. i left it at home (i'm at school about 170 miles away).

okay okay. you're probably correct on this cuz i checked the shop manual and the actual numbering by mitsu has the pin number assignments skipping numbers. so even though theres 76 pins, there could still be a pin 58 and 84.

well seeing from the pic above, he has the m5-a wiring harness. HOPEFULLY it isn't a revision, making it an m5-b. the apexi manual only has the m5-a. the only optimistic thing about using the m5-a diagram is that the diamante still uses this harness.
since my OZ seems to use the m3-a, which is still used in the evo, mirage, galant, etc since late '95 and onward, its a good chance the m5-a is the correct harness diagram since the diamante is still using it.
wow, we learned something new today.

looking at the pic, the airflow wire still seems to retain the white/red stripe wire as positioned in the m5-a diagram. all the other wires are in the way to see if they're using the same color wires as my oz. the only 2 sections to be looking at are the middle 2 sections. the 2nd from the left should have the power, rpm, ground, and airflow wires. the 3rd from the left should just have the throttle signal wire.
m5-a
power = red/yellow stripe, section 2, top row, 1st pin from left
rpm = green, section 2, top row, 3rd pin from left
airflow = white/red stripe, section 2, bottom row, 2nd from right
ground = black, section 2, second row, last pin on the right
throttle = ?, section 3, second row, first from left pin
if this description is the same with your harness, i'd go for it. but then that's just me

Since I've seen several different harness numbers, I'll be a dumbass and ask for clarification...
So...
Manual transmission Lancers use the M3-A harness
Automatic transmission Lancers use the M7-E harness.
Does this mean we can ignore the M5-A harness all together? I have a manual, so it doens't matter much to me, but clearing this up will help me make sense of it all.

MT - m3-a
AT - m7-e
Sweet...time to look into a RevSpeed Meter GP again...
Hmmm. The only car the wiring plans say use the 4G94 is the Pajero...gotta remind myself that these Apex products for for JDM use.
Oh well, it lists the M3-A harness, so that's good. It doesn't cover the 7-E though.
