it sounds like you idle control valve is broke,when the car is cold it will not idle but once warmed up it's fine. i am willing to bet thats what it is.

would that cause it to idle ****ty at start up and normal at operating temperature?

yes,im just telling you this because the same thing happened to my evo and that was the problem!everything you are describing,and yes it's easy to change,it is by the throttle body.

ok, after two hours of straight reading (now that i actually have a direction to look in) i do believe the IACM is my problem. anybody have a part number or know how much they are or where i can find them?

After searching through the service manual and wincaps (the Mitsu parts software) it appears you need a whole new throttle body. You've best bet would be to pick up a used one and see if that fixes your problem. I happen to have my stock one still (in case I ever went back to stock).

i dont believe thats true. i was reading through my service manual and it gives several tests to see if the IACM has gone bad. it then says if it fails, replace the IACM. i just need to wait until monday to grab a voltage meter from work.

I also saw that, but for some reason, I can't find it in the Mitsu Parts Software. I'll look some more and try and get a part number.
