Engine Goes In Limp Mode
Just got a call from the dealer, they have to keep my baby over the weekend
The good news is that they did decide that it was the throttle body and they've ordered a brand new one. I am wondering though, if it's a design defect - and it certainly sounds like it based on the number of people it's happening to - what's to prevent it from happening again unless they've already recognized the problem and corrected it?
I am very bummed, I took a risk by switching from Fords to buying the Lancer, it seemed to fit everything I wanted (and nothing Ford made came as close) plus everything I could find seemed to indicate that at least with the Lancers Mitsubishi made pretty reliable cars. This ain't my definition of reliable - my last car, a 97 Escort, went ~187k miles and all we ever did to it was routine maintenance. And such a darn shame too, because it's an absolute blast to drive (when it's running) and really feels like the car I've always wanted. At least the wife has been nice and not given me an earful about how I should have stuck with a Ford.

Not to defend Mitsu, because I really know nothing about them, but I think they got alot right with the New lancer. its a complete redesign. For any car that is brand new first year is always going to have bugs.
At least they found the problem. lets see if it fixes it.

So I just picked up my baby. Drove it back to work, about 2-3 miles. So far, so good - no more lurching at stops, acceleration seems to be okay so far at low speeds.
Dealer said according to what they got back from Mitsu, the throttle body was defective. Hopefully what they replaced it with wasn't. But for those of you having similar issues, this may be something to look at.
I think part of the reason I was so bummed - and kinda still am - is that I've fallen in love with how the car drives & responds. It's such a cruising machine, and sticks to the road so well, with the Rockford Fosgate stereo blasting it's easily the most fun car I've ever owned. I hate for there to be any problems in what is otherwise such a fine machine!

have you stepd out of your car with that rockford playing, the rattle is killer
I had to actually brace a metal bar between the trunk wall and the enclosure to keep it from rattling.
I did it, it was hard but I did it

Throttle Body is the likely cuplrit.
Limp Mode happened less than a mile from the dealer so I limped it all the way down the road. People were swerving and cursing at me. Lord Blessed SOB Limp Mode Problem.
When they hooked it up it was a P63B Error code. ( I think that's what he said ) I had to leave it there and should be able to get it back this Friday. They said they'll give me the report when its done so Ill report it here.
I have read on other forums that the Throttle Body has issues from the factory. I hope that this is the problem and Limp Mode days are now behind us.

Solution To Limp Mode FINALLY
So it was the throttle body that was to blame for the car to just die in traffic. Its been 6 hours since I got the thing back and so far no problems. Only time will tell.
I've had mine back for two full weeks now. Put about 1000 miles on it in just the last week; so far no problems. I pray you're right, that it's the throttle body from the factory and not a more general defect with the throttle body.
It's like a year after the problem happened, but I think it's worth writting it anyway. Sorry about my english, It's not my mother tongue. I read in a mexican forum that some guy had the same "limp mode" problem, and it happened because the fuel tank intake wasn't properly closed. He opened it, closed it again until it clicked and the problem was solved.
